Who's who
Gary and Jan Lawrence
Gary and Jan met in 1983 and still can't
stand to be apart for more than a day. Gary was born in England, grew up
in California and ended up at the University of Utah on a track scholarship (in
"high jumping" of course). Jan is a native Utahn who insists
that you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country
out of the girl. Horses have always been important to both our
families. We love to ride. Gary is a very accomplished rider,
instructor and trainer who has earned his USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals, as well
as a USCTA Bronze Medal. We love the country life, the farm and our
friends here at Millbrook.
Peter and Sylvia Lawrence
Peter and Sylvia, the "folks", made the whole thing possible. They moved to Utah in 1972 when Peter was employed by Formica Corp. Later on they found the property where the farm is located. Things really got rolling in 1984 when we built our indoor riding school and started boarding horses and giving riding instruction. Peter built almost everything you see on this place including all of the stables, the dressage and jumping arenas, the cross country course, the stallion barn, landscaping, lounge, turnouts and more. Sylvia handles all of the office duties and tries to keep us organized. She is our most exceptional hostess for shows and makes divine Cornish Pasties. Recently retired, Peter and Sylvia have been finding a little time for travel and camping.
Kathy Lawrence
Kathy is a rider who has done a bit of everything. As a teen she was a champion hunter/jumper rider. Later she became interested in dressage and eventing. She trained her thoroughbred Sir Patrick to Fourth Level in dressage after eventing him through Preliminary. She proceeded to ride her next horse, Leviathyn, through Preliminary in eventing and Fourth Level in dressage. Kathy currently rides Basilikeus, a fabulous gelding by Bolivar, and is bringing him up through the levels in dressage. Kathy enjoys donating her spare time to worthy causes like the Make a Wish Foundation.
