Millbrook Farms - A family affair It's a little hard to say when Millbrook got started because horses have been a part of the Lawrence family forever. It really does run in the blood, with extended family members keeping horses and stables in England long before the farm was started here in Utah. The Lawrence family was in the Lehi location since the 1970s and has been boarding horses and teaching dressage and eventing since the 1980s. 2010 finds us at our new location in Fairfield. If you click on the Hall of Fame tab above you will see what our horses and riders have accomplished during the past years.
Gary and Jan Lawrence Gary and Jan met in 1983 and still can't stand to be apart for more than a day. Gary was born in England, grew up in California and ended up at the University of Utah in a track scholarship. Jan is a native Utahn who insists you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl. Horses have always been important to both our families. We love to ride. We love the country life, the farm and our friends and family here at Millbrook.
Peter and Sylvia Lawrence Peter and Sylvia Lawrence "the folks" made this whole thing possible back in the 1980s and now are working another miracle for us in Fairfield. They came to Utah with their family back in the 1970s and built the Lehi facility from the ground up. After 25 years of sweat equity, they decided to do it all again in Fairfield. Peter has extensive construction experience and built most everything in the Lehi location to last forever. (Which is why we moved so much of it to the new location in Fairfield.) Sylvia handles the office duties and tries to keep us organized. She is an exceptional hostess at our shows and other events and makes divine Cornish Pasties. When they aren't working at being retired, Peter and Sylvia love to travel and take the family camping.
The Hills Family
Gary's sister Karen is married with a family of her own. Karen's family is very active here at the farm. Two of her children, Taylor and Evan, keep the family riding tradition going and her husband Randy and son Peter help out with shows and construction projects. Evan has enjoyed considerable success so far and was invited to be a demonstration rider at the USDF National Symposium with Kyra Kyrklund in December 2008.
Karen travels with the Millbrook crew to out of town shows and makes the BEST shortbread cookies.
Taylor doesn't have a horse of her own yet, but enjoys riding a lot of the horses here at Millbrook.
Evan is a serious rider who is up and coming. He has a wonderful horse to ride, Megabucks (Grandee) and has been working very hard at bringing him up through the levels. Evan hopes to be able to compete at the NAYRC in the new few years.
Randy and Peter Hills are always willing to lend a hand. Of course, we never run out of projects!
Kathy Lawrence
Kathy is a rider who has done a bit of everything. As a teen she was a champion hunter/jumper rider. Later she became interested in eventing and dressage. She trained her horses to Fourth Level in dressage and Preliminary in eventing. She currently owns and trains Basilikeus (Ethan) a fabulous gelding by Bolivar, and is bringing him up through the levels. Kathy enjoys making jewelry and has a devoted following of customers. You can check out her store at www.heartsonggems.etsy.com. She also donates her time to worthy causes like the Make A Wish foundation.
